POSITION SUMMARY

The individual will follow the Vulcan Operations Management Development program to gain an overall understanding of the industry, our business, and the Operations function. The main purpose of the development program is to prepare the individual for a lead role in plant operations. The program is approximately 12 - 24 months in duration depending on the competency and experience level of the individual. The individual will participate in hands-on training involving Primary and Secondary Plant Operations, Finish Plant operations, Engineering, Quality Control, Plant Maintenance, Mobile Equipment Maintenance, Drilling & Blasting, Loading and Hauling, Product Shipping, Product Inventory, Customer Services and overall facility management. The individual will also spend extensive field time in one or more plants to gain experience in mining operations and processing aggregates and related products. In addition, the individual will be trained in the management aspects of the business, including spending time in Accounting, Finance, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, and Safety & Health. Some individuals may be involved in major capital and plant expansions projects.

Upon successful completion of the training program, the Individual will gain the competencies required to assume a lead or supervisor role in our operations. There is a structured career path through Operations as the individual successfully masters competencies at each job level.

Essential Functions

  • Works with Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) department and Company officials to promote a safe work environment that meets all State and Federal rules and regulations and will assist in ensuring that the plant meets all SHE policies and practices at the site location.
  • Attends production/safety meetings regarding the day-to-day operations of the plant.
  • Participates in plant and mobile equipment inspections.
  • Works with hourly repair crew on maintenance and repair throughout the plant site.
  • Will learn to operate various types of mobile and stationary equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, skid steer, crushers, wet plants, etc. Work with the pit crew; learn the pit operations, the importance of availability of equipment to the plant production.
  • Learns all load out functions including loading/scaling customer trucks, loading/inspection of locomotive and rail cars where applicable.
  • Understands functions and importance of the QC department and how QC reduces customer issues.
  • Spends time in all sections of the plant and office to learn various jobs from equipment operation to supervisory responsibilities.
  • Spends time in Central Services shop training on mobile equipment and how repairs are prioritized where applicable.
  • Learns Drilling and Blasting standards.
  • Develops employee relation skills.
  • Works with sales department to meet customer and company needs
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Education:
    • A Bachelor s degree is strongly preferred. A major in Engineering or Mining may be helpful but not essential.

    Experience:

    • Previous mining or engineering internship experience is preferred but not required.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • General knowledge of business and organization practices.
    • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Must possess a positive, "can-do" attitude and willingness to learn.
    • A self-starter.
    • Excellent interpersonal relationship builder.
    • Having the willingness to relocate within the Division is highly desirable.
    • Ability to use computerized equipment and technology and other software packages relevant to the position.

    Other Requirements

    • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time.
    • Valid driver license.
    • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends and flexible schedules.
    • Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant. Outside setting will expose employee to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces, walking/climbing steep inclines.
    • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Travel required: Up to 50% varies by location.
    • Must be willing to relocate



    Don't Be Fooled

    The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
